A few weeks ago we talked about the first decisions you have to make when you start planning your wedding. The ceremony is one of those but then of course you have to decide, will you get married by a Celebrant or in a Church?
You might already know but if you don’t here some things you might like to think about to guide your decision.
• A traditional religious ceremony is usually in a church (duh) and sometimes there can be strong rules about decorations, music, how much skin you can show and the ceremony format. The benefit of that of course is that you have fewer decisions to worry about!
• If you and your partner haven’t been baptised you might not be able to get married in a church. And all couples usually have to attend a premarital counselling course. If you are interested in a church ceremony – ask about any requirements they have and make sure you and your partner are comfortable with them.
• If you have a special place in mind for your wedding ceremony, like the beach or parklands or somewhere unique like a fun park, then you will probably need to get married by a celebrant. Celebrants usually have a list of places they can marry you so make sure yours is on their list.
• Non-church wedding locations will often mean a bit more work because you will have to setup furniture, flowers, and lighting. And have a backup plan if you’re thinking of an outdoor affair. But the benefit of this option is that you also get to have every detail just as you’d like it!
